TF002 is a site-specific installation commissioned by the Shoreditch based art/event space, The Corridor.

It will be installed from the 7th – 21st May 2009 and is the first of a series of physical manifestations of our ongoing exploration for TextFields.

The Corridor #03

The spatial attributes of the long and narrow corridor site are taken as the terrain for the corridor text to be activated.

Morphing themselves into an engaged field defined by the tension of its immediate space, both the text and the site re-invent their formal, physical and topical values. Investigating the dialectical relationship between the centre and circumference, the text of the corridor and the corridor suspend themselves into a shifted, ruptured and dislocated but an immersive environment.

Initially generated as a three-dimensional virtual field each of the 358 elements of TF002 are physically built by means of custom design, parametric scripting and lasercut materials. Each of the individual components will contain information of its original text map, the forces that affected its position, and its serial location within the entire field.

“Rather than begin with the elements, the strategy called first for the creation of the forces that are essential to transformation.”

Lebbeus Woods, The Storm and The Fall

“The names of the minerals and the minerals themselves do not differ from each other, because at the bottom of both material and the print is a beginning of an abysmal number of fissures”

Robert Smithson, Earthworks
